Choosing porcelain tiles

Not sure? Bring your plans to the showroom and we lay samples side by side.

Porcelain or ceramic: what is the difference?

Porcelain is denser and takes in very little water, so it suits floors, bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor areas. Ceramic is lighter and easier to cut, and is mostly used on walls.

Can I order a colour or size I do not see in the showroom?

Yes. We sell every tile in the series of the manufacturers we work with, not only what you see on display. We keep a large stock in Amman, and regular shipments by land from RAK Ceramics bring even small orders, 10 to 20 square metres, in about 10 to 12 days. Ask us for the delivery time of your tile.

What does "rectified" mean?

The edges are cut perfectly straight after firing, so the tiles can be laid with very thin joints.

Which tiles work outdoors?

Porcelain with a slip rating of R10 or higher, or a tile its maker lists for outdoor use. Each tile's page says Outdoor when it is one.

Can large slabs go on walls and floors?

Yes. A slab such as 120 × 280 cm covers a wall or floor with very few joints. Slabs need careful handling and an experienced installer.

Matt or polished?

Matt hides marks and is less slippery, so it is the usual choice for floors. Polished reflects light and makes a room feel bigger, and is popular on walls.

How much tile should I order?

About 10% more than the floor or wall area, for cuts and breakage. Allow more for diagonal or herringbone laying.

About porcelain tiles

Porcelain is fired at a very high heat, so it is dense, hard and takes in almost no water. That makes it a good choice for floors that see a lot of use, for bathrooms and kitchens, and for balconies, outdoors and pool surrounds when you pick a grip finish or a 20 mm tile. Today's porcelain copies marble, stone, wood and concrete closely, in sizes from small mosaics to slabs of 120 × 280 cm and more that cover a wall or an island in one piece. We carry Italian porcelain from Flaviker, Marca Corona and Rondine, porcelain and large slabs from RAK Ceramics, and glass mosaics from Ezarri, and we can bring any tile in their series.
