What is an iBox, and why order it before tiling?

Updated 29 October 2026

A built-in shower or bath mixer has two halves. The part you see, the handle and the plate, goes on at the very end. The part you don't see sits inside the wall. For Hansgrohe and AXOR, that hidden part is often the iBox universal.

One box, many designs

The iBox is a box with the valve body inside. Your plumber connects it to the hot and cold pipes and the shower outlets. Many Hansgrohe and AXOR thermostats and mixers click onto the same iBox, so you can change the design later without opening the wall.

Why it goes in first

The box is set into the wall before the tiles go on. If it is missing on the day the tiler arrives, the wall can't be closed. That is why each of our product pages names the part it needs and gives its code.

The codes

The iBox universal is 01800180. Other products need a basic set of their own, or a part in the floor or ceiling. See every part that goes in first
